Frequently asked questions
From the original Listgeeks · June 2013. Some answers describe the original site.
What is Listgeeks?
Listgeeks is the social network for creating, sharing and comparing lists of things important to you.
What’s the benefit of being a registered user?
Only registered users have the option of making their own lists, commenting on other lists, and following their friends and interesting strangers. Listgeeks is a social network, but the social layer can only be experienced once you’ve registered and logged in. Don’t be shy!
Have you ever seen that movie High Fidelity?
We have, yes. Thanks for asking. Some of us even read the book.
Who gets to see my profile information and lists I create?
Listgeeks is completely open. All the information you leave on the site, whether it’s your lists, comments, or profile information, can be viewed by other people. Transparency is important to us, which is why we’ve kept the login process simple and the amount of information we require to let you get started as minimal as possible. Whatever information you decide to make available to the public is entirely up to you. Easy.
Are there any rules?
Yes, the first rule is that you never talk about Listgeeks. Just kidding. Using the Listgeeks Website means that you agree to abide by our Terms of Service. Most importantly, be aware that neither the use of hate speech nor the posting of content which violates the privacy or publicity rights of any third party will be tolerated. If you encounter anything on Listgeeks which you feel qualifies as hate speech, or any content that you believe violates any third-party rights, please inform us right away so that we can take action: danger@listgeeks.com
What do those numbers included at the end of each list title (Best Album 2010¹⁹/⁶⁵) represent?
The first number represents people you are following who have created their own version of the list, while the second number is the total number of people who have created a version of the list. When you’re looking at a specific list, by default you will see all of the different versions of it. If you click “Following,” however, you will only see versions that the people you are following created.
Will it ever be possible to include images/movies/audio files etc. as items in a list?
After careful consideration, we decided we like the simplicity of not having that additional content featured in the lists for now. That may or may not change in the future, who knows? Note that you can easily point people to media-related content by adding links to each item.
I loooove yellow. Why can I not add yellow as my profile color?
We loooove yellow, too (sort of), but white text on light colors doesn’t really work, which is why some of your favorite colors (sort of miss you, yellow) had to be ruled out. Sorry.
How do I find my friends?
You can search for people by username and real name through the search field at the top of each page on the site. Once you find the person you're looking for, hit the “Follow” button to keep up-to-date with what they've got going on.
Anything else?
Yes, thanks for asking! We're always open to suggestions and ideas for how Listgeeks can be improved. Please feel free to let us know what's on your mind by using our Listgeeks Feedback Interface.
Cool, but what if I have so many ideas I think I should join the Listgeeks team?
We're not hiring at the moment, but that's subject to change quickly, so keep checking this space for the latest. Thank you.
Love,
